We have developed a proteomics subcommittee web-page that includes links to existing databases of Arabidopsis proteomics, one of its goals being to disseminate standards for sample handling and data interpretation. We consider it a platform for the Arabidopsis community to exchange ideas and protocols and to spark discussions among interested researchers. Developed in a spirit to facilitate scientific networking, this site will foster interactions between plant proteomics researchers by providing contact information for proteomics laboratories and assembling information on meetings. Furthermore, we will cross-link the MASC efforts with a recently launched European COST initiative on Plant Proteomics using our webpage as an information exchange platform.

2010

  • Arabidopsis Proteomics Aggregator (MASCP Gator) is complete. Check out the utility here.
  • Initiated formal interactions with HUPO regarding the involvement of MASCP with the formal development of proteomic standards in model organisms. Such a proposal will attempt to standardize efforts and make optimum use of the proteomics data for improved mining and cross species comparisons.
  • Workshop held at ICAR 2010 attracted about 100 participants. An interesting discussions concerning data storage and making proteomics information available to the wider community followed the presentations by MASCP members.
  • Proteomics workshop at ICAR 2010 (Yokohama, Japan) on Monday 7th June at 12:45. All Welcome.
  • Appointment of Katja Baerenfaller Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland to the subcommittee.
  • Added information for Fellowship opportunities for Germany and Australia.
  • Appointment of Nicolas Taylor from the University of Western Australia to the subcommittee.
  • Arabidopsis Proteomics Aggregator (MASCP Gator) close to completion. Will provide a portal allowing basic protein information (mostly derived from proteomic studies) to be displayed for a given AGI.

2008 - 2009

  • Commenced the coordinated development of an Arabidopsis proteomics aggregator portal amongst MASCP members (more news soon) - 2009
  • Ported existing html based MASCP website to MediaWiki layout enabling members to edit content - 2009
  • Held inaugural MASCP dinner for members (Edinburgh , 2009)
  • Appointment of Waltraud Schulze from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology to the subcommittee - 2009
  • Proteomics workshop held at ICAR2009 in Edinburgh, UK
  • Proteomics workshop held at ICAR2008 in Montreal, Canada

2006 - 2007

Subcommittee members have been involved in several initiatives to develop databases and software tools for the exploitation of Arabidopsis proteomics data:

  • A database for the subcellular location of Arabidopsis proteins (SUBA). The database houses large scale proteomic and GFP localisation sets from cellular compartments of Arabidopsis.
  • A repository of searchable MS/MS spectra as a protein/peptide-reference library for the Arabidopsis thaliana proteome integrating different levels of molecular organization including metabolites, pathways, and transcript expression (ProMEX).
  • Tools for the protein database-independent identification of MS/MS spectra in order to allow improving genome annotation with proteomics data (Qualscore).

These are only three examples, further web resources can be found by following links in the Databases menu.
